Doula Services

Studies show that women and their partners benefit tremendously from the presence of a doula. Reduced rates of medical intervention, shorter labor, increased satisfaction with their birth experience, and lower rates of postpartum depression are just a few of the benefits.  Additionally, women who want, or need epidural also benefit from a doula's presence and support. Partners report feeling more involved, confident and present during this miraculous event with the extra support of a doula.

Doula support with Birth Devi Maternity Services includes a continuum of comprehensive services that span pregnancy, birth and postpartum (for up to six weeks after delivery). You will receive birth preparation counseling, prenatal support, on-call services from week 37 until your delivery, continuous birth support during labor, lactation services and follow ups after your baby is born.

What is a doula

A birth doula someone trained specifically  in the support of couples during labor and delivery. A doula assists by providing continuous physical and emotional support. This includes suggestions and guidance with movements, breath and other techniques that help reduce discomfort and facilitate the birth process. The doula also provides assistance with birth planning and information to help you make informed decisions in collaboration with your medical provider. BirthDevi doulas work with you before, during and after the birth of your baby.

We are often asked if a doula is the same as a midwife. The answer is no. A midwife is trained and qualified to medically manage your birth and can perform various medical procedures and exams.

A postpartum doula is someone trained in supporting and nurturing moms and new families after the birth of their baby. Postpartum doulas may assist you with baby care as well as your own self-care. Postpartum doulas visit you at your home and help to make those early weeks with baby a little smoother.

Doula Services Feedback

We know we said this in person, but we can't help reiterating how grateful we were to have you play an important and wonderful role at our baby's birth. We can't imagine it going any smoother and we will always be thankful for your calm nature, good will and strong guidance.  ~Brenna and Nick

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for helping us have the birth we wanted. We're so glad to have had your calming, gentle, wise and helpful presence leading up to and during the birth. We had a feeling you'd be a perfect doula and we were right!  ~Marisa and David

I don't know where to begin to thank you for all of your love and support along my journey into motherhood. Thank you for holding a sacred space for me during all the ups and downs of pregnancy and for your gifts of wisdom, knowledge of birth and baby rearing.  ~Eila

You helped me to focus on my breath and kept me calm, especially when we learned the baby's heart rate was dropping in between contractions. Thank you for your sound advice and support in all of our decisions. We couldn't have gotten through it without you.  ~Beth and Alan
